PAC Approves Crown’s Barangaroo Casino Tower

Written By Carla Harris

Crown Casino

After months of delay, New South Wales Planning Assessment Commission (PAC) has finally approved James Packer’s $2 billions Crown Barangaroo Casino Tower. This elegant signature building will be Sydney’s second casino and will offer some spectacular views.

After some concerns expressed by the community, local councils and design profressionals, the NSW Department of Planning requested a number of changes to be made to the original proposal. These recommendations included reducing the size of the podium that house the 271 metre tower, making the observation deck on the 65th floor open to the public, reducing the size of the licensed ground floor area of the hotel, conducting a lighting survey to evaluate the impact of the nearby Sydney Observatory, and restricting the operating hours on the ground floor and outdoor area of the hotel.

At first Crown Resorts were a little reluctant to the reduction of the podium, they managed to work out all the recommendations and fully compile with them. Crown Resorts and PAC managed to come to a final mutual agreement. Construction will be able to begin as soon as the NSW Government gives the go ahead.

The Barangaroo Casino Tower is expected to be open by 2021. It is expected to be a six-star hotel, with more than 300 rooms, suites, apartments, shops, bars, VIP gaming rooms, and conference facilities.
