First Gold Bracelet Winner of 2016- CJ Sand

Written By Carla Harris

Play poker online at Casino-Mate

The 47th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) kicked off in style with the first of its 69 scheduled tournaments for the summer.

The first event was the Casino Employee Championship. This event is a $565 buy-in No-Limit tournament played over two days and nights. The event took place at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas.

This saw Christopher Sand, better known as CJ Sand, take home the first WSOP gold bracelet. Out of a whopping 731 entrants Sand managed to hold his poker face throughout the event to walk away with a $75,157 cash prize. CJ is currently employed as a sports book writer and cashier at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

This was Sand’s first ever WSOP-related victory and it was the biggest cash prize of his tournament career as a player. It was only his second-time to cash in the WSOP after managing to finish in-the-money at 2015’s famed “Colossus I” tournament.

The win for this tournament alone amounted to nearly a four-fold increase over his entire career prize money earnings. The 45-year old’s career prize money is now sitting close to six figures.

The Casino Employee Championship is intended to honour the dedication of millions employees who work with the casino industry. The American Gaming Association has suggested that more than 1.7 million jobs have been created within the gaming industry, which is one of the largest, even higher than the number of employees within the airline industry.

Problems with Investor Tony Fung's Plan--What the Future May Hold

Written By Carla Harris

Tony Fung, a Hong Kong investor, has plans to buy and build casinos near the Great Barrier Reef—by purchasing Reef Casino Trust for $216.8 million and spending over $8 billion to build a casino, resort and convention center. However, those plans have hit a snag due to concerns from Australian regulators.

The problem voiced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is that the only major competitor to the proposed Aquis resort is the casino operated by Reef Casino Trust—the same company that Fung is planning to purchase. Regulators feel that consumers may miss promotions, improvements and extras because there will not be any direct competition.

The state government is very much in support of more casinos in the area around the reef since they stimulate economy, attract tourists and create jobs in an area that has been sluggish. However, Mr. Fung may have to make a few adjustments to his plans to meet the approval of the ACCC. The chairman of the ACCC stated in an article in The Australian that “an investigation into the extent of likely competition” between the proposed Aquis resort and the Reef Casino as well as smaller local venues that have a few machines.

The ACCC invited interested parties to share comments before August 21st so they can make a decision before the takeover would close in October. Aquis, in the same article, stated that it will respond to all concerns and feels confident that the takeover will be approved.

Even though one of the biggest potential casino deals in recent years is facing a few snags, this does not mean the deal is off. If Fung can prove that he will be responsive to the ACCC’s concerns, it is likely that residents and tourists can both expect this huge new resort to spring up in the next few years.

Your Introduction to American and European Roulette

Written By Carla Harris

Roulette is one of the oldest known casino games still in existence today and has remained an old favourite and one of the more popular games at any casino. Roulette is an interesting game of chance, with very little skill required to play. Novices and pros alike, flock to Roulette tables around the world to enjoy this old classic, in hopes of striking it lucky.

If you’re interested in having a go at betting on the wheel, then use this guide to get to know the game a little and before you know it you’ll be stacking your chips on any table with gusto, and hopefully you can beat the odds.

Over the years there have been many strategies and so-called fool-proof methods of beating the Roulette wheel, but ultimately, no matter how long you’ve been playing the game and no matter how confident you are in placing your bets, the game of Roulette is simply up to the spin of the wheel and the roll of the ball. That doesn’t mean, however, that you shouldn’t give it a go. When lady luck is on your side, Roulette can be extremely rewarding and also an immensely entertaining and sociable game to take part in.

So, get ready to do a little learning as we help you understand the classic, compelling and exhilarating game of Roulette!

The Game as we know it

Roulette has undergone many changes over the years since it first started appearing in casinos, centuries ago. After all those tweaks and changes, we are left with the game as we know it today that is played all over the world.

There are two main types of Roulette which are: European and American Roulette. European Roulette is the more popular of the two because it offers a lower house edge. Firstly, the game consists of a wheel of 37 or 38 slots, numbered 0-36 in the European version, and in the case of American Roulette, an extra 0 or double 00. The wheel is usually made out of polished wood and contains a liner which features the coloured, numbered slots or pockets. In the middle of the wheel is a turret.

The numbers featured on the Roulette wheel are always featured in the same sequence. The European, or single-zero wheel sequence is as follows:
0-32-15-19-4-21-2-25-17-34-6-27-13-36-11-30-8-23-10-5-24-16-33-1-20-14-31-9-22-18- 29-7-28-12-35-3-26

The American, or double zero sequence is as follows:

0-28-9-26-30-11-7-20-32-17-5-22-34-15-3-24-36-13-1-00-27-10-25-29-12-8-19-31-18-6-21-33-16-4-23-35-14-2

The colours of the numbers, whether in European or American Roulette, are always the same. The odd numbers from 1 to 10 and 19 to 28 are red. The even numbers in this range are black. From 11 to 18 and 29 to 36, the odd numbers are black and the even numbers are red. The 0 and 00 pockets are green.

The Roulette wheel is placed at the top of a table, which features a grid layout where players are required to place their chips in order to make a bet. The table consists of an inside and outside betting area. The inside area features the individual numbers laid out and the outside area has boxes for specific outside bets that include red or black, odd or even, column or third bets.

The dealer, who is also known as a croupier, stands at the top end of the table where the wheel is. The dealer exchanges players’ money for chips, oversees bets, spins the wheel, calls the winning number and also pays out the winning bets.

The chips used to play Roulette are usually made out of metal or plastic and are usually in different colours for different players to use in order to prevent any confusion on the table. Higher value chips however, are sometimes one colour throughout such as $50, $100, $500 and higher.

The above is just an extract from the insightful library of information that we have on Roulette, previously published as a PDF, the full version on How to Play Roulette is available at Casino-Mate. Stay tuned to the Casino-Mate Blog for more in depth information on the exciting game. Remember that you can start your Roulette adventure on your computer screen at any time by logging into Casino-Mate. You can play for free money and ease your self into the game as opposed to going guns blaring, or worse yet, as a timid little newbie amongst high rollers.

The World Series of Poker – An Aussie Recap

Written By Carla Harris

WSOP

In the desert heat of Las Vegas, Nevada, the World Series of Poker Main Event is still underway. More than 6,000 players entered, and as day three began winding down, the field tightened to just over 1,000— a number that will continue to drop dramatically as play continues. Many notable Australian players have made the trip to fabulous Las Vegas to give the tournament a go.

As of July 11th, there are still a couple of "Australia's Finest" in the tourney like James Obst who isn’t a chip leader, but is still holding on.

Paul Bennett is a lesser-known Australian player, but he is in the top 50 in terms of chip stacks. This is a very impressive position at this point in the tourney. If he can hold on, he’s in good position to have an impressive finish.

On the other hand, a couple of the names that are most associated with Australian poker have busted. Jeffery Lisandro busted out of the main event, however, he is very proud of his performance, having cashed in at two of the other events this year. Joe Hachem had hopes to win it all again. He came to the tournament with guns blazing. Unfortunately, Hachem busted at the end of his day two.

The Australian Poker League plays in bars, taverns and other venues across the country. This league held a number of tourneys that sent 12 players to the WSOP this year, giving these players the chance to enter a high-dollar tournament they may not have otherwise been able to enter. Time will tell if any of these unknown players are still “in it to win it!”

If you have followed the WSOP in the past, you realize that it is still extremely early in the tournament. The chip leaders today could be riding the rails tomorrow. That is what makes the main event so exciting! The final table of the WSOP is normally played in November, so mark your calendars as it should be televised. Watch and see if any Australian players make the push for the win!

Casinos Expected to Spark Massive Aussie Tourism Boom

Written By Carla Harris

Cairns, Australia

Australia has beautiful beaches, heart-stopping natural wonders, and a plethora of cultural attractions. But it's another feature that some observers believe will ignite a massive tourism boom - new, world-class casinos.

Sound far-fetched? It's not. Many industry observers believe Australia is the world's next gaming hotspot.

Along with scenery and culture, Australia has another tourism ace-in-the-hole -- proximity to Asia. With the country's mining industry slowing down, a massive infusion of tourist dollars from Asia is an attractive proposition for local politicians.

With 13 casinos already in business, Australia isn't virgin territory for operators. Developers are betting, however, that a new and more upscale model will attract a large and untapped consumer market.

Tony Fung, a billionaire Hong Kong businessman, recently won approval for Aquis, an $8 billion gaming resort in Cairns. Fung has promised the project, which is vastly larger in scope than current Australian casinos, will be a "man-made wonder of the world."

The resort's pitch to potential visitors is enticing: an integrated gaming resort offering five-star luxury, situated next to one of the world's natural wonders -- The Great Barrier Reef.

The target demographic for the development is broad. Fung expects to lure some of Asia highest rollers -- while also tapping the vast Chinese middle class market.

Fung isn't alone. Two other developers, James Packer and ASF Consortium, plan to build world-class integrated resorts in the Gold Coast and Sydney respectively. Both of these casinos will also target the growing Chinese tourism market. It's a strategy industry observers believe could transform the Australian gaming landscape.

Gaming is extremely popular in Asia. As the Chinese middle class grows and acquires more purchasing power, developers are betting they'll cast an eye toward Australia's mix of casinos and natural beauty. If these mega-casinos pass muster with regulators, they could create tens of thousands of new jobs while pumping billions into the economy annually.

The idea of Australia as an international gaming center rivaling Las Vegas or Macau may seem like a longshot. But it's a bet these savvy casino magnates appear willing to make.

The Luckiest Country: Aussies Rank First Worldwide in Per Capita Gaming

Written By Carla Harris

Play Pokies in Australia

Ask someone to name the betting capital of the world and you might hear Las Vegas, Monaco or Macau.

But none of those iconic hotspots can compete with Australia.

H2 Gambling Capital, a consulting firm based in the U.K., issued a report earlier this year naming Australia as the world's betting leader. Aussies spent roughly $1,200 per capita on gaming in 2013.

One can only speculate as to why Aussies have such a deep cultural affinity for gaming. How the country got to the top, though, is much clearer — an abiding love of "pokies," or video poker. H2 reported that video poker represents the largest chunk of gaming activity among Aussies.

National love for pokies is represented in the sheer number of machines in operation. With roughly one machine for every 108 residents, Australia has one of the highest rates in the world.

There's no denying that gaming is part of the country's cultural fabric — an estimated 80 percent of Australian adults participate in some form of wagering annually, according to a study published in Foreign Policy magazine. Whether it's bingo, sports betting or video poker, those numbers mean gaming is clearly a national pastime.

It's also huge business. The total worldwide gaming market was worth about $440 billion in 2013.

Though the Aussie gaming industry continues to grow, the country's reign at the top may be short-lived. China has zoomed from 10th place to second place in per capita wagering in the last decade. H2 predicts the Chinese will own the top spot within five years.

That's hardly bad news for Aussies, though. Australian casinos are extremely popular among Chinese tourists . That means a projected Asian gaming boom should pump billions into the Australian economy.

Several world-class Australian casino projects are underway, giving future tourists — and millions of enthusiastic local bettors — even more opportunity to get lucky.

Find Safe Online Casinos: Inspect Customer Support

Written By Carla Harris

Online Casino Support 24/7

There is a barrage of online casinos claiming to be the number one casino. They offer marvelous deposit bonuses and free play options with a promise of riches that raises the skeptic in us, and for good reason. How do you filter through the noise and get to the few reputable casinos online that you can actually trust?

Searching for reviews of casinos online isn’t the best option as there are millions of affiliate sites paying lip service to casinos for their own profit by providing sparkling reviews that display in search engine results when you look for them. You sign up and deposit money and they get a cut. But have they really placed you in safe, reliable hands? Not always.

As a gambler, you have to pay great attention to customer service options as they provide a vital clue to how accountable a casino is.

Can you call them?

The Wizard of Odds provides a blacklist of casinos that do not have randomized games and do not pay legitimate gambling winnings. Upon further inspection, you will find that some these sites do not have reliable customer support options. They may offer a live chat option and e-mail support with no contactable telephone numbers. While any Harry or Sally can be hired to man a phone line, it would be advisable to rethink your monetary commitment to a hard to reach casino.

Can you be helped at any time?

Good customer support options include

24/7 support which will provide you with help when you need it

Customer service representatives of reputable casinos ensure that there is always staff at hand, working different shifts to help you when you need it.

Do they speak different languages?

The larger a casino claims to be, especially if they are “number 1”, the greater the likelihood that a casino provides support in different languages.

For example, a “number one casino in Europe” should ideally have more than one language option that caters for the various dialects in the region. While there is a sizeable amount of English speakers in Europe at 67,000,000 what about the 95,000,000 Russian speakers, the 80,000 French speakers, and the 90,000,000 German speakers? While not impossible, it is very difficult to be a number one casino in Europe without catering for at least some languages other than English.

It’s no secret that the online casino industry has a multitude of dark crevices and shady alleyways that many consumers wished they hadn’t crossed. You can mitigate your risks by a significant percentage if you are vigilant about customer support and weigh claims made by a casino against simple realities that you are aware of.
